Visakhapatnam: A 37-year-old man impersonating a doctor at King George Hospital (KGH) was arrested by Visakhapatnam police for allegedly cheating a father of Rs 1 lakh on the false promise of arranging a kidney transplant for his ailing child.Â
According to the news reports, the accused, a resident of Sri Nagar Colony in Vijayawada, posed as a postgraduate doctor at KGH. He reportedly wore a medical apron and stethoscope to gain the trust of patients and their families.Â

After the complainant published an appeal in newspapers on February 22 seeking help for his son’s treatment, he received a phone call on February 25 from a man claiming to be a doctor. The caller said he had accessed the child’s medical details through government sources and asked the family to come to KGH.
At the hospital, the accused escorted them to the superintendent’s office and demanded Rs 1 lakh for arranging a kidney transplant. The father paid the amount the same evening, only to later realise he had been cheated.
Following the complaint, the police analysed CCTV footage from KGH and tracked the mobile numbers used by the accused. Investigations into the case revealed that the accused was involved in at least 33 cases across Andhra Pradesh, including mobile phone thefts and frauds.
Upon arrest, authorities seized Rs 30,000 in cash, a white medical apron, and a stethoscope from his possession. Further investigation is on, reports TOI.

The case has been registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at One Town Police Station. Police officials said the accused is a native of Tanuku in West Godavari district and holds a B.Tech degree from Aditya Engineering College, Samalkota.
