Karnataka: In a tragic incident, a final-year student at an Ayurveda medical college committed suicide in Karnataka. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old BAMS student at the Raghavendra Ayurveda Medical College in Maladihalli, Karnataka. She was reportedly pursuing her internship.According to police, the student was reportedly upset over false allegations spread by some individuals about her having a relationship with a faculty member.”The victim was deeply affected by the defamation and is suspected to have taken the extreme step due to mental distress caused by such rumours,” police sources informed PTI.Also Read: Hyderabad doctor ends life after injecting himself; wife booked for abetmentOn April 1st, the student committed suicide by hanging herself at her home. Following this incident, the police were informed and immediately initiated an investigation.During the investigation, the police stated that the student left behind a suicide note in which she held the lecturer’s wife and several students responsible for her death.”22-year-old medical student in Karnataka allegedly died by suicide after facing sustained harassment from classmates over rumours linking her to a college professor,” police informed HT. According to the TNIE media news report, a resident in Holalkere and the BAMS student’s father, has alleged in his complaint that his daughter had informed him about rumours circulating regarding her relationship with her lecturer. As per the complaint filed by her father, the deceased student had a professional and friendly rapport with a faculty member, reported NDTV. However, some students allegedly began spreading rumours suggesting an inappropriate relationship between the two, which, her family claims, led to repeated taunts and social humiliation.Her father alleged that the constant gossip and mental pressure deeply affected her, leaving her distressed despite efforts by her family to counsel and support her.
