Tirupattur: In an unfortunate incident, a 53-year-old paediatrician at Vaniyambadi Government Hospital was found dead at his under-construction house located near the Vaniyambadi Bypass Road on Wednesday. The sudden death has sent shockwaves through the healthcare fraternity in Tirupattur district.The deceased, identified as a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Vaniyambadi Government Hospital, allegedly died by suicide on February 4, the same day he formally joined Natrampalli Government Hospital following a transfer order.Health department officials confirmed that the transfer had been initiated at the doctor’s own request. V Gnana Meenakshi, Joint Director of Health Services, Tirupattur, stated that he had sought a posting at Natrampalli GH. Sources indicated that after returning from Natrampalli GH, he left his mobile phone at home and went out. When he did not return and remained unreachable, his wife searched for him at his private clinic, where he routinely saw patients in the evenings, but he was not present there.
The staff at his clinic later traced him to the under-construction building nearby. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased had served for over two decades as a paediatrician at Vaniyambadi Government Hospital and had held the position of Chief Medical Officer for the past five years. Colleagues and members of the local community described him as a compassionate physician who frequently guided economically disadvantaged patients from his private clinic to the government hospital to ensure they received free treatment. The New Indian Express reported that a shopkeeper near Vaniyambadi Government Hospital recalled that several patients and well-wishers gathered at the hospital late into Wednesday night to pay their respects.
