
Kottayam: T. K. Jayakumar, Superintendent of Kottayam Medical College Hospital, has announced that several key facilities at the institution are ready for inauguration. The facilities include the surgical block, paramedical hostel, cath lab, biogas plant, renovated outpatient department (OPD), and a lactation unit, marking a major upgrade in the hospital’s infrastructure.
According to the news reports, the announcement was made during a review meeting convened by Ports Minister V. N. Vasavan on Saturday to assess the progress of various construction works underway at the hospital. The meeting, held at the Medical College Conference Hall, was attended online by Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajan Khobragade, and Director of Medical Education K. V. Vishwanathan.

Addressing the meeting, Health Minister Veena George directed officials to examine the possibility of imposing penalties on the contractor for failing to complete the construction of the super-speciality block within the stipulated timeframe, reports the Hindu.
Meanwhile, the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (Buildings) informed the meeting that the construction of the building for the infectious disease treatment department has reached 60% completion and is expected to be finished by February. The Health Minister also instructed officials to expedite steps to demolish the EFG block, which has remained unused for a long period.
