Srinagar: The Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has recently been granted approval by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for two MCh seats in the Department of Neurosurgery. Subsequently, the college secured approvals for two DM seats in Neurology, followed by the addition of two seats each in DM Medical Gastroenterology, DM Cardiology, and DM Pulmonary Medicine. The institution also received approval for two M.Ch seats in Pediatric Surgery, along with two additional seats in Urology approved by the NMC in February 2026.Meanwhile, at the undergraduate level, the number of MBBS seats has increased from 180 to 200 for the 2025–2026 session. The number of postgraduate (MD/MS) seats has risen from 259 to 277 for the 2025–2026 session.Furthermore, for the 2025–2026 session, the DrNB Thoracic Surgery and FNB Pediatric Nephrology courses—recognized by the National Board of Examinations (NBE)—were also approved.
