A decade ago, entrepreneur PC Zhu was in the United States, starting up a Boston-based outfit helping biotech startups grow. Today he is in Shanghai, building one of the country’s most ambitious biotech efforts — a first-of-its-kind hub that connects American and Chinese contract research organizations, hospitals, and research institutions with U.S. and European biotech companies. 

The goal: to bridge East-West innovation and tap into China’s rapidly maturing biotech sector.

Zhu is founder and CEO of ATLATL, one of China’s leading biotech incubators, and is already producing notable results. Among other things, his incubator recently helped a Chinese biotech company advance the first circular RNA therapeutic to human testing in the United States — a first-in-class milestone for the technology.
