Mangalagiri: The Department of Nuclear Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, inaugurated a Gamma Camera (SPECT-CT) and a High-Dose Therapy facility on Tuesday.Executive Director Ahanthem Santa Singh inaugurated the new technology and the therapy ward, according to a press note issued by the institute. Also Read: AIIMS Manglagiri, DGHS organise National Conclave on Patient safety- NMC issues notice for medical collegesAs per the note, the SPECT-CT is a diagnostic imaging system capable of performing functional imaging of various organs of the body. This technology aids in the early and accurate detection of diseases through more than 30 different types of scans, thereby facilitating the timely initiation of treatment and the achievement of better clinical outcomes. This technology has been procured at a cost of ₹10 crore, while the price of diagnostic scans will range between ₹150 and ₹1,500.Meanwhile, the high-dose therapy ward has been commissioned to provide advanced radionuclide therapy, particularly for patients with thyroid cancer. This facility will play a crucial role in reducing recurrence rates and improving long-term prognosis, according to the press release, reports The Hindu.Earlier this year, Medical Dialogues had reported that, describing India’s evolving healthcare landscape as a story of expanding access and renewed hope, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that universal health coverage is no longer a distant aspiration but an achievable reality.
