WASHINGTON — Nine drugmakers on Friday unveiled deals with the Trump administration to lower the prices of some of their drugs, marking the administration’s largest such deal to date.
The deals are the latest in a series of agreements with drugmakers that are aimed at lowering prices to levels paid by peer nations. The new agreements share many characteristics with the previous ones, senior administration officials told reporters Friday.
After announcing the deals with the drugmakers, President Trump made a surprise declaration: He said he plans to meet with health insurance companies soon to try to drive their prices down next. The president said he would meet with the companies next week in Florida or in the first week of the new year in the White House. His plan to meet with insurers comes amid Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies expiring, which risks hiking costs for millions of Americans.
