Chennai- In a fake medical admission case, a 33-year-old man was recently arrested on account of defrauding a woman of ₹11 lakh by promising to secure admission for her son at a private medical college in Chennai.The victim has been identified as a resident of Ram Nagar North 3rd Street, and the accused has been identified as a real estate agent.Also Read: Rohtak MBBS exam scam: Tampering found in answer sheets of 31 more studentsThe complainant, stated that she met the arrested individual, on Facebook in 2025. The police reported that Shriram allegedly convinced her that he could secure admission for her son in a medical college by leveraging his contacts, and subsequently collected money from her in instalments.However, he failed to secure admission, and when the woman demanded a refund, he allegedly threatened her. Subsequently, she lodged a complaint with the Madipakkam police. Following this, the police immediately started to investigate the matter.According to the DTNext Media news report, the police arrested the man, One Sriram following an investigation. The probe revealed that a case was already registered against him in Madurai, where he had allegedly cheated people by making false promises of securing them jobs abroad. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.The authorities further urged the public to steer clear of unverified offers regarding education and recruitment found on social media and to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.Medical Dialogues had recently reported a similar case where a doctor’s appointment booked through a fake app turned costly for a 57-year-old man, who allegedly lost around Rs 4.5 lakh after attempting to consult a doctor through a mobile number he found online.The phone number reportedly belonged to a fraudster who asked the man to install a mobile application to book a doctor’s appointment. Soon after installing it, the man became suspicious about the app’s authenticity and tried to uninstall it, but was unsuccessful.
