Kannur: A doctor associated with a private hospital in Kannar has been booked following allegations of medical negligence during treatment that led to severe vision loss in newborn twin babies. According to the complaint, the twins were born at the hospital on August 3. The parents alleged that the babies did not receive timely and proper medical care after birth, which allegedly later resulted in serious damage to their eyesight.Also read- Doctor, nurses booked for alleged medical negligence at Wayanad HospitalAs per The Hindu news report, the issue reportedly came to light when another doctor from the same hospital informed the parents about possible negligence in treatment. Following this, the infants were taken to an eye hospital in Kannur and were later referred to a specialised eye care centre in Coimbatore for advanced treatment.Doctors there found that one of the twins had suffered severe vision loss in both eyes. Though surgery was performed, the child’s eyesight could not be fully restored.Based on the parents’ complaint, the Kannur police registered a case against the doctor under the relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections dealing with medical negligence. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of their impairment. Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a team of 15 doctors, including senior health officials at Eras Lucknow Medical College and Hospital, was booked in a medical negligence case after a 57-year-old woman alleged that a surgical instrument was left inside her stomach during a surgery performed about two and a half years ago, causing her severe abdominal pain since 2023.  Along with this, she also alleged that upon discovering the issue, the doctors tried to mislead her by falsely diagnosing her with appendicitis to hide the earlier negligence.
