Guwahati: The premier health institution, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Guwahati), is set to offer specialised healthcare services to former defence personnel and their families under the ECHS initiative of the government, officials said.A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Regional Centre, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), Guwahati, on 6 February 2026 at AIIMS Guwahati. The collaboration is expected to provide comprehensive healthcare services to former servicemen and their families across the northeastern region, an official statement said, news agency PTI reported.  Also Read:Guwahati HC reviews anti-quackery measures, seeks Govt response“The agreement aims to facilitate access to quality medical care for veterans and their dependents, thereby strengthening healthcare support mechanisms for ex-servicemen in the region,” it said.
Through this partnership, eligible beneficiaries under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) will be able to avail specialised medical services and treatment facilities at AIIMS-Guwahati, as per applicable norms and guidelines, it added, reports PTI.Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, has inaugurated A Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), in a move aimed at advancing high-quality, ethical, and patient-centred clinical research in the Northeastern region. Speaking at the inauguration, AIIMS Executive Director Ashok Puranik said that the CTU strengthens the mission to translate science into better health outcomes.It will enable investigators to conduct rigorous studies that address regional and national health priorities, he said. The CTU will catalyse investigator-initiated trials and sponsor-led studies, improve patient access to cutting-edge therapies, and build a sustainable research talent pipeline.Also Read:AIIMS Guwahati inaugurates Clinical Trial Unit
