Hanamkonda: In a crackdown on illegal medical practice, officials of the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, conducted a raid on the premises of a quack in Damera village of Elkathurthi mandal in Hanamkonda district, seizing a large quantity of medicines that were being stocked and sold without a valid licence.During the inspection, DCA officials found that the premises, operating as a First Aid Clinic, was being run by Swargam Sathish Babu, who was allegedly practising medicine without the required medical qualifications and drug licence. The officials detected 30 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, painkillers, anti-ulcer drugs and anti-hypertensive medicines, which were being stored and dispensed illegally. The total value of the seized medicines was estimated at around Rs 21,650.DCA officials expressed serious concern over the illegal stocking and sale of antibiotics and steroids by unqualified individuals. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, DCA, Warangal, and the inspection team was led by Drugs Inspector J. Kiran Kumar. As part of the enforcement action, officials lifted samples of the seized medicines for laboratory analysis to verify their quality and compliance with regulatory standards.According to a recent media report in Deccan Chronicle, the action forms part of the DCA’s ongoing drive to curb illegal medical practice and prevent the sale of medicines by unqualified persons across Telangana.DCA officials stated that further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be initiated against those involved under the relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
