A Mumbai-based study has found widespread adoption of AI chatbots among MBBS students, with 86 percent using them for academic purposes and 97.7 percent aware of tools like ChatGPT.
Chatbots were mainly used for exam preparation, research support, and content summarisation, accessed largely via smartphones. However, only 35.6% knew prompt engineering, highlighting limited advanced use. While most students supported curricular integration, concerns over accuracy, reliability, and regulation remained. The study highlights the need for AI literacy and ethical guidance in medical education.
