Dehradun:Ā Holding a Dehradun-based Max Super Speciality Hospital and its doctors responsible and guilty of medical negligence following the death of a woman during treatment, the Uttarakhand Medical Council has directed the hospital to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased. According to ETV Bharat, the medical council has further suspended the registration of two doctors, including a neurosurgeon, for 2 months.The action was taken after a detailed probe by the Ethics, Discipline and Registration Committee of the Council found the hospital guilty of medical neglect during the course of the woman’s treatment and held the doctors, including a neurosurgeon, primarily responsible for the lapse. During this suspension period, the doctors will not be allowed to practice at any hospital or nursing home.Despite the declaration of the action, the hospital management has claimed that it has not yet received any official communication or letter regarding the fine and suspension order from the medical council.Also read- Consumer court holds surgeon liable for gross negligence in varicose vein treatment, slaps Rs 3 lakh compensationThe incident took place last year when the woman was admitted to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, on April 4, 2025 and died during treatment on April 7. Following her death, her husband lodged a formal complaint before the Uttarakhand Medical Council, alleging negligence and professional misconduct by the hospital and its doctors had led to her demise.The decision was taken by a five-member judicial committee of the council chaired by Dr Anuj Singhal after an inquiry into a complaint filed by the patient’s family, reports PTIBased on the findings, the medical council ordered the hospital to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the family. It also suspended the registration of the neurosurgeon and another doctor associated with the hospital for a period of two months, as per theĀ ETV Bharat media report.The council stated that such action was necessary to ensure accountability and maintain ethical standards in medical practice.
