Puri: A 38-year-old woman passed away at Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Monday, two days after undergoing a Caesarean section, triggering protests and demands for justice from her family. Hundreds of people gathered at the hospital, alleging medical negligence.The deceased, a 38-year-old woman, was admitted to the DHH maternity ward for delivery on January 10 and gave birth to a baby boy. Despite informing hospital staff, she reportedly did not receive immediate medical attention. Frustrated by the delay and lack of hospital support, her family carried her to the operating theatre themselves, as no attendants were available to transport her on a stretcher. Doctors declared her dead, approximately half an hour later, she was taken to the theatre.The victim’s father claimed that the hospital staff asked him to sign a blank paper stating that his daughter’s condition was serious, which he refused to do. He insisted on knowing the cause of death and demanded accountability before taking the body.Speaking to Prameya News, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Akshaya Satpathy described the incident as “unfortunate.” He clarified that the patient had previously delivered one child and had experienced three miscarriages. “She was stable post-surgery and was kept under observation. On Monday, she was transferred to the ward. Preliminary reports suggest she fell while sitting on the bed and may have suffered a heart attack, which led to her death. A detailed investigation will be conducted,” Satapathy added.Kumbharpara police reached the spot and tried to pacify the bereaved family, reports TNIE.
