Chennai: In a shocking incident, two men were arrested by city police for allegedly posing as a doctor at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and stealing gold jewellery and a mobile phone from a woman attending to her ailing mother-in-law. The victim, 30-year-old Kanchana, a resident of Kolathur, had admitted her mother-in-law to the hospital on June 4, 2025, after she was diagnosed with a tumour in her head. On June 6, a man claiming to be a doctor introduced himself and assured Kanchana that he would oversee her mother-in-law’s treatment and surgery. After reviewing the medical records, he later instructed her to buy some medicines and undergo a scan, taking her to the seventh floor of the hospital.Also Read:Cyber Fraud: Mumbai woman duped of Rs 50.8 lakh by man posing as GynaecologistAccording to the news reports, before the scan, the man asked her to place her valuables, including a three-sovereign gold thali chain, a two-gram ring, and her mobile phone, in a bag, promising to keep them safe in his cabin. He never returned, prompting Kanchana to immediately lodge a complaint at the hospital police station’s crime wing.After reviewing hospital CCTV footage, police identified the suspects and arrested them on Thursday.During interrogation, the police found that the two men had surveyed the hospital premises before targeting Kanchana. They had sold the jewellery, purchased gold coins and an old car, and travelled to several places. Police seized two gold coins weighing 12 grams and a car from the accused, reports the Hindu.
As per the DT Next, further investigation uncovered that Rajesh Prithvi has a criminal history, including two cases of attempted murder.
