Alappuzha MCH accused of stitching patient’s wound without removing glass

According to recent reports, Ananthu, a resident of Punnapra who worked for a light and sound agency, was involved in an accident in Valanjavazhi on July 17 when his motorcycle was hit by a car. Following the accident, he received treatment at the Medical College Hospital. Two days later, doctors removed the bandages and told him the wound was healing.  

However, he continued to experience constant pain and was unable to go to work. After noticing swelling near the wound, he returned to the hospital for treatment on December 22nd. The patient alleged that the doctors did not listen to him and told him to seek treatment elsewhere. He then visited a cooperative hospital, where doctors reportedly removed pieces of glass from his leg. 

Thereafter, the patient filed a complaint on Tuesday. ​An Ambalappuzha police officer stated that the complaint has been forwarded to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, who will conduct an investigation. Only after that will we register a case and begin the process of identifying the accused, reports Onmanorama.

Meanwhile, according to Dr Harikumar A K, the superintendent of Alappuzha Medical College, the hospital received a complaint on December 31. He said, “We received the complaint yesterday. An inquiry was scheduled for today, but the patient did not turn up, so it has been postponed to Friday. Only after the enquiry can we reach a conclusion.” Dr Harikumar further added that the patient had consulted several departments, including orthopaedics and surgery, since July, and all relevant medical records will be examined as part of the investigation.
